Turkey Recalls Ambassador To Israel Over ‘Humanitarian Tragedy In Gaza’

Turkey has recalled its ambassador to Israel in protest over the “unfolding humanitarian tragedy in Gaza caused by the continuing attacks by Israel against civilians,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

The statement also condemned Israel’s refusal of calls for a ceasefire and the continuous and unhindered flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

“We call on Israel to stop its attacks on civilians and to respect international law,” the statement said.

The recall of the ambassador is the latest sign of the deteriorating relations between Turkey and Israel. The two countries have been at odds over a number of issues, including the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Turkey’s support for the Muslim Brotherhood, and Israel’s decision to normalize relations with some Arab countries.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry said that the recall of the ambassador is a temporary measure and that relations with Israel will be evaluated in light of the developments on the ground.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry has not yet commented on the recall of the Turkish ambassador.
